According to reports, Arsene Wenger is after Southampton defender, Virgil van Dijk.
- Van Dijk is said to be worth £50m
- Wenger wants him for new back three
- Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City all interested
- Southampton contract runs out in 2022
Van Dijk is a man in demand right now with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City all said to be keen.
The issue is, the high level of interest surrounding the 25-year-old from Premier League clubs is set to make his asking price sky-rocket to the region of £50m.
If this is true, Southampton would therefore be making a massive £37m profit on the £13m they paid for him just two years ago.
Despite this, according to the S*n, Arsene Wenger, has already made inquiries about bringing Van Dijk to north London.
Wenger allegedly plans to have the Dutchman slot into Arsenal’s new back three, which the boss trialed for the first time against Middlesbrough.
Van Dijk, who is sidelined at the moment with an ankle injury, has been one of Southampton’s stand-out players since signing from Celtic in 2015.
He makes an average of 10 defensive actions per game and creates five chances while only making one defensive error. To put this into perspective, Gabriel makes an average of seven defensive actions, creates four chances and makes two defensive errors.
Laurent Koscielny makes 10 defensive actions and creates an average of two chances per Premier League games. He also makes just one defensive error.
Therefore, the Saints man could be a great option at the back.
