Arsene Wenger has admitted that he doesn’t have the foggiest over Alexis Sanchez’s potential ankle injury.

Following a nasty challenge from West Brom’s James McClean, Wenger subbed the forward off, admitting post-match that his ankle wasn’t looking good.

“He was injured from the tackle in the first half,” he said.

“It was a bad tackle.

“His ankle is in an absolutely terrible state.

“He should not have played in the second half but he insisted that he wanted to come out.

“In the first half he was the one who created many chances, made dangerous situations and in the second half you could see that he couldn’t anymore.

“In the end we had to take him off. He should not even have played in the second half.

“Chile goes to Argentina for a massive game but they play only next week and if it’s only a kick, he will play. If the ligament is damaged, he will not play.”

Now, speaking with beIN Sports, Wenger has admitted that he doesn’t know what’s going on with Alexis’ ankle, despite the Chile national team’s medics passing him fit.

“I don’t know because he left for Chile,” the boss claimed.

“In South America, they have a decisive period for the qualifiers for the World Cup, they have a very important game against Argentina over the weekend. He went there.

“The last news I have is that it was only the kick. I don’t know if his ligament was damaged or not – it was swollen so hard to assess after the game – but it looks positive.”

Meanwhile, Alexis, who I’m 100% convinced is half machine, has been training with his Chile teammates, rolling up the legs on his shorts. Classic Alexis.

His ankle’s strapped up by the looks of things but he seems to be training as normal and comfortable enough, indicating that it’s probably not serious.
