Despite coming under heavy criticism for his form this season, Petr Cech is actually making more saves than Manchester United’s David de Gea and Spurs’ Hugo Lloris.
According to the Daily Star, the former Chelsea goalkeeper has actually made 78 saves this season compared to De Gea’s 53 and Lloris’ 54.
Although Cech is still far behind Burnley’s Tom Heaton (105) it does show that he’s been somewhat useful to Arsenal during this campaign, despite not being quite the shot-stopper he once was.
Overall, the 34-year-old’s kept nine clean sheets in 27 appearances across all competitions, while Lloris has kept 12 in 32 and De Gea’s kept 12 in 36.
Interestingly, Wojciech Szczesny’s kept 12 clean sheets in just 28 appearances for Roma while on loan this season.
This goes to show that although Cech’s not what he used to be, he’s far from a terrible keeper. However, it should be taken into account how many shots Arsenal need to be saved. Perhaps the better the defence the less saves the goalkeeper has to make in the first place.
