On 13 March 2016, Watford knocked Arsenal out of the sixth round of the FA Cup at the Emirates.
With Arsenal on course to win a third FA Cup on the bounce, not many would have bet against them when they drew Watford in the sixth round. However, the Hornets caught the Gunners during one of their typical bad spells, following losses to Manchester United and Swansea, and a draw against Spurs in the League.
Arsenal had already beaten Sunderland, Burnley and fellow 2014 finalists Hull so knocking Watford out seemed like a simple enough task.
That was until the second half when Odion Ighalo put the visitors 1-0 ahead in the 50th minute and Adlène Guedioura doubled their lead 13 minutes later.
Despite a late consolation goal from Danny Welbeck, it was too little too late for Arsenal, who exited the competition in the sixth round after losing 2-1.
If Arsenal had been victorious, they would have faced Crystal Palace in the semi-finals and, if they’d won that, Manchester United in the final.
