Nacho Monreal has become the latest player to throw his weight behind Arsene Wenger as we all sit and wait for an announcement on what is happening.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Monreal said, “An Arsenal without Wenger? It’s complicated, isn’t it? It’s complicated to imagine it, because he’s been the manager for more than 20 years, and the truth is I can’t imagine it, but only time will tell.

“At the end of the day, he’s someone who’s been at the club for 20 years. He’s the boss. He holds the most weight in the dressing room, at board level, and he controls pretty much everything, but he’s very approachable.

“He’s someone who speaks with the players, asks about everyone’s situations. He always has positive things to say, and he likes to have a controlled dressing room, and a good atmosphere. We’re fortunate to have him.”

With talk of Wenger staying but mass change at the club, Nacho could be one of those players who makes way for a newbie in the summer.

By his usual standards, he has been more than a little poor this season. At 31, the club will likely be looking to replace him sooner rather than later anyway, and it is clear that Kieran Gibbs is not seen as a long-term option for the position.

Athletic Bilbao have been long-term admirers of the player and he has previously said that he wouldn’t mind a move there.

In 2016, Nacho told Radio Euskadi, “I have great affection for Athletic but I think only about the present, not what could happen in the future.

“Although I am keeping all my options open.

“I have some good friends already at the club such as Raul Garcia”.

Monreal is currently with Spain as they get ready for their World Cup qualifying match against Israel on Friday night.
