Mesut Ozil’s dream is to win the Champions League, a task that will be a lot harder for him if Arsenal don’t even qualify for the competition next season.
- Ozil has won World Cup, Euros, La Liga and some cups
- 28-year-old believes Arsenal will close the gap on top 4 places
- Midfielder returned from a back injury for Germany’s win against Azerbaijan
Mesut Ozil has never won the Champions League but when asked recently by Die Welt what his dream was, it was exactly that – to win Europe’s premier competition.
It is, perhaps, the one point where both his and Arsene Wenger’s dreams curl up together and give each other a squeeze, because the Frenchman has never won it either. It’s absence on the C.V. of both men leaves a massive, notable hole.
When asked what his footballing dream was, Ozil replied simply, “To win the Champions League.” When asked ‘with Arsenal?’ he replied, “Why not?” It was interesting to note that the Daily Star left these two words out of their report on his comments.
Arsenal currently sit in sixth place in the league and look set for their toughest top four chase of recent years. Ozil has already admitted that he feels good in London and at Arsenal, with talks set to continue in the summer over his future, could Champions League participation be a sticking point? Very possibly.
But Ozil thinks that Arsenal will make the top four, so there’s nothing to worry about.
“Of course, we have had a difficult time recently and we are not satisfied with sixth place,” Mesut said.
“I am convinced, however, that we will catch up again soon.
“Let’s see what the future holds.”
