Mesut Ozil looks like he could well sign a new Arsenal deal with the player saying he will make a decision ‘soon’.

  • Only part of his quote has been used by the press
  • Ozil returned from a back injury on Sunday night
  • German is just one of a number of players out of contract in 2018 at Arsenal
  • Midfielder is happy, comfortable and enjoying life in London

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Mesut Ozil is out of contract next summer.

Arsenal have put all contract talks on hold until the summer (not just Ozil and Alexis) as they concentrate on trying to scrap for top four and the FA Cup.

Away on international duty, Ozil gave a few interviews, and they all seemed positive as he spoke about how much he is still enjoying life at Arsenal.

“I am contracted until 2018 and I feel very comfortable,” Ozil told German newspaper Die Welt in his most recent interview.

“We’ll talk soon and then make a decision.”

These are the quotes that are doing the rounds, but there is more to them than was reported.

The journalist said to Ozil, “Manager Arsene Wenger is said to be planning without you.” “Who says that?,” replied Ozil. “This is in English newspapers.” “And you think Wenger tells a journalist first before he tells me? Then I know him differently.

“I have contract until 2018 in London and I feel very comfortable there. We’ll talk soon and then make a decision.”

Ozil returned to the German matchday squad for their 4-1 win over Azerbaijan. Coming on as a second half substitute, he replaced Mario Gomez after 61 minutes.

Shkodran Mustafi started the match on the bench and stayed there for the whole game.

In other international news, Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain played the full 90 in England’s dull match against Lithuania at Wembley. Playing in a central midfield role, he found space well but his passing was sloppy at times and he failed to have much of an impact.
