Alex Iwobi has been pretty vocal recently about his respect for Arsene Wenger and desire for the Frenchman to stay at Arsenal.

  • Iwobi has been capped 9 times for Nigeria and scored once
  • The forward broke into Arsenal’s first team last season
  • This term, Iwobi’s made 35 appearances for the first team over all competitions
  • Iwobi’s scored 4 goals this season and assisted 7

While away on international duty with Nigeria, the forward slammed disrespectful Arsenal fans over their anti-Wenger banners, later comparing the boss to a father figure at the club.

Speaking to the BBC‘s World Football programme, Iwobi has once again labeled criticism of Wenger as ‘unfair’.

“He’s a great man in my opinion,” said Iwobi.

“I’d like him to stay.

“He’s always helped me and developed me as player.

“I don’t think it’s fair the way everybody criticises him. It’s very unfair considering what he’s done.

“He’s always achieved fourth place, been in the Champions League and been up there with the title contenders.”

The 20-year-old went on to hail Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, whose contracts both come to an end in 15 month’s time, saying that he’d like them to stay given that they’re key players but at the end of the day it’s their decision.

“As you can see from stats, goals and chances they create they are key players in our team,” he said.

“Everything offensively almost goes through them. Even though we have other players they are world-class players.

“For the club it’d be great for them to stay, but at the end of the day it’s their decisions.”
