Reported Arsenal target, Maximilian Philipp, claims he’s happy at Freiburg, since he reckons the Bundesliga has taken over the Premier League technically.
The forward, who’s been linked with Spurs as well as Arsenal, admitted that although he would like the play in the Champions League, he’d like to stay in the Bundesliga.
“Naturally every player – including me – has the dream to play in the Champions League one day,” the German told SportBild.
“England was always my goal. I loved the football and the fans.
“But I think now the Bundesliga has overtaken the Premier League technically.
“And I can also imagine staying in Freiburg forever.”
Philipp’s scored seven Bundesliga goals in 18 appearances so far this season, including one against Borussia Dortmund.
Despite being highly rated, the 23-year-old stayed with Freiburg when they were relegated to 2.Bundesliga at the end of the 2014/15 season and although they were promoted a year later, he appears comfortable where he is.
Freiburg are currently in eighth place in the Bundesliga so there’s no immediate threat of them going down again, he’s getting regular football and his contract runs out in 2019 so he has time to change his mind. No wonder he’s not making waves.
Of course, Arsenal – or Spurs – might not have even been interested in the first place.
