Arsenal reportedly had a scout in the crowd as Benfica played Belenenses, watching defender, Victor Lindelof.
The name Lindelof is certainly a new one of the gossip roundabout. So what do we know about him?
Just 22, the Swede has caught the eye of a number of top clubs, including Manchester United and Juventus. Others scouting at the match included Celtic, Cologne, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Eibar and Verona.
A 6ft 1.3inch centreback, Lindelof is a right-footer who can play in either central defensive slot, at right back and as a defensive midfielder. He is under contract until 2021 after signing a new deal just 9 days ago.
£60m is an awful lot
Yes, yes it is. But that’s his release clause and unlikely to be the final fee he will move for, should he opt to leave Portugal. Was ensuring he had a high release clause part of the reason he got a new contract? Probably.
Is he likely to come to Arsenal?
Probably not. Manchester United have a long-held interest in the player and were heavily linked with a£30m bid in January. They have reportedly already agreed a deal which will see them get first option on the player and £60m is the kind of stupid money they are happy to pay.
Were Arsenal definitely there to scout Lindelof?
Well, that’s what the press in Portugal think. But they could also have been there to watch a host of players. Pizzi, 27, has enjoyed a great season in central midfield with nine goals and six assists to his name to pick out just one player.
