Rejoice! Salomon Kalou has signed a new deal with Hertha Berlin, which hopefully means he won’t be linked with Arsenal for five minutes.

Arsene Wenger has always been a huge fan of the former Chelsea striker, with the boss even confirming that he tried to buy him once when the Ivory Coast international was with our rivals.

“I don’t know what I will do at the end of the season,” said Wenger in February 2009.

“But you are right, we tried to get him last year. But Chelsea refused and I have never spoken to him [Kalou]. I just asked Chelsea if we could talk about him.”

As a consequence, Arsenal have been linked with Kalou at every available opportunity since, with reports in 2014 claiming that Wenger was ready to launch a £2.5m bid for the star who then played for Ligue 1 club Lille.

In 2014, Kalou obviously didn’t sign for Arsenal, he signed for Bundesliga club Hertha BSC where he’s gone on to make 86 appearances, scoring 30 goals and assisting 11.

The 31-year-old’s contract was set to run out in June. However, he’s signed an extension with the German club, although no one appears to know for how long.

Saying this, it’s still probably only a matter of time before Arsenal are linked again.
