According to recent reports, Arsenal and Roma are set to battle for Youri Tielemans’ signature this summer with Everton also interested in the player.
The talented Anderlecht midfielder, 19, has attracted interest across Europe as he continues to develop. This season especially, he’s becoming increasingly involved in goals from a central midfield role.
With 12 goals and a further eight assists in the Jupiler Pro League this term, Tielemans has already significantly improved his goal contribution on previous seasons.
With three further goals in the Europa League, the Belgian outfit look set for a quarter-final place. Their slender 1-0 aggregate lead over APOEL gives them the advantage ahead of their home clash this week.
Many will suggest Tielemans should join a side that offers a higher quality standard than Belgian football. This will prove beneficial in his efforts to further develop as a player, alongside more talented teammates and opposition.
The Champions League is seen as Europe’s top club competition and can boost a player’s profile worldwide. Roma have been involved in six of the last ten years whilst Arsenal, despite their shortcomings, are praised for their consistency in regularly qualifying.
How much and where is he likely to go?
Tielemans’ market value is believed to be in the region of €20m, which wouldn’t be a stumbling block for either side. However, Premier League counterparts Everton have also been quoted as an interested side tracking his progress.
He would be inclined to join a side that can offer him regular first-team minutes, but his next destination remains to be seen.
Everton are a feasible option under Ronald Koeman, who previously scouted him as Southampton boss. Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku are Belgian internationals who could look to persuade him to join Merseyside.
