Arsenal are continuing to monitor Oguzhan Özyakup and will do so for the rest of the season as he keeps on impressing.
Leaving Arsenal four years ago on the advice of Robin van Persie (a player he recently fell out with), Arsenal received just £425k for the midfielder. Should they decide to bring him back to the club, he will cost considerably more now. There is one bit of good news, however. His contract is up next summer meaning he wouldn’t cost as much as he probably should.
Three goals and four assists in his season’s Turkish Super Lig tells only a very small part of the story. Özyakup, 24, has matured into a stellar central midfielder who will have no shortage of admirers when the summer rolls around.
Arsenal scout, Jurgen Kost, revealed in an interview recently that Arsenal are keeping an eye on him. “Ozyakup is a player of the highest standard, we have been closely tracking his progress and when we do our next search for players in his position he could return to Arsenal,” Kost said.
It seems as if Arsenal are being true to his word.
A report in Gazetta in Greece claims that Arsenal were watching him on Thursday night as Besiktas beat Olympiacos – a game in which Özyakup captained his side.
He is currently valued at just over £10m.
Other players Gazetta believe were being scouted from Besiktas include Taliska, Tosoun, and Aboubakar, however there were scouts there from other clubs as well.
