Anti-Wenger protests aren’t new. If you’re an Arsenal fan, you’ll have been hearing about these for numerous seasons, ever since it appeared as if the club weren’t really competing. The Gunners haven’t won a title in over a decade and while at first money to pay off the Emirates was a valid excuse, it no longer is.
This season, it’s reached breaking point with huge portions of Gooners voicing their opinions on the Frenchman staying past his contract this summer.
“The protests don’t stop, even if Wenger announces that he is staying,” Mark King said.
“It won’t be a major surprise if and when he signs a new contract. But it will be a shameful decision from an owner who has no sporting ambition for Arsenal.
“Wenger has done nothing in the past three years to justify a new deal and we will ramp up the protests against the board and the manager.
“The atmosphere in the stadium and the confrontation between supporters is going to get worse.
“We have tried to keep our protests respectful and don’t want to be giving abuse to a man who has done great things for Arsenal in the past.
“But if Arsenal think we are going to go away they are in for a big surprise.”
It’s already been widely known for some time that Arsenal have offered Wenger a new deal. They were always going to and it was always down to him whether he accepted it. Despite results not going Arsenal’s way, it does seem as if the boss will be staying on for at least one more season, which a lot of fans are pretty angry about. However, protesting isn’t likely to change anything now.
