Arsene Wenger hinted that N’Golo Kante chose to go to Chelsea because of the money after he tried to sign him a couple of times.

The boss was speaking at his pre-Chelsea press conference when he was asked about the Chelsea midfielder, who moved in the summer from Champions Leicester.

The journalist asking the question highlighted how Wenger has often spoke of Kante in glowing terms before pondering if Arsenal had every tried to buy him.

“Yes. When he was in France, when he was at Leicester,” Wenger replied candidly.

So, what happened?

“There again, we cannot explain absolutely everything, but it’s quite obvious where he has gone.”

The journalist then followed up by asking if he was saying it was a money issue. Wenger replied, “I do not want to talk more about that. Transfers are transfers, you cannot explain absolutely everything.”

Make of that what you will, but I know what I’m making of it…
