On Tuesday every outlet online seemed to be reporting that Laurent Koscielny had criticised Arsene Wenger’s team selection against Chelsea at the weekend.

The quotes doing the rounds online said this: “I think we played some players in front of others and I think we should have played more as a team and there was space to do so. They hit us on the counter.

“It will be difficult no. Mathematically, nothing is done but we know that it is going to be very complicated.

“We need to come back to the quality of our game, our passing, movement.”

Most outlets are reporting this as him criticising the team selection.

However, we got our resident Frenchman, Sylvain Jamet, to watch the video of his interview in French and give us an accurate translation.

Unsurprisingly, this wasn’t what Kos said at all.

Here is what he really said: “It will be hard (to get the title) now, mathematically it is still possible, but we know it will be very difficult.

“We need to come back to [our basics], our quality of play, our pass and move game.

“I think we tried to play [individually], one player after another rather and I think we should have played more as a team with a lot more movements.”

Not quite the same, is it? What he was saying was that players tried to do things on their own (Hello, Alexis!) rather than working as a team.

He also added, “There were opportunities because they were giving us space, they got us in their half of the pitch to get us on the break.

“We need to stay strong together and stand up, confidence will come back and the victories as well.”
