Jens Lehmann appears optimistic that even if Alexis Sanchez leaves Arsenal, everything will be fine.

Alexis has under 18 months left on his current Arsenal deal and with talks being kept very hush hush, people are beginning to speculate about his future.

Speaking to talkSPORT recently, former Arsenal goalkeeper, Jens Lehmann, compared Alexis’ situation to Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira’s years ago. Both were huge players for the club and everyone thought Arsenal would fall apart without them. It didn’t.

“They haven’t won anything with him so they won’t be in big trouble,” he told talkSPORT.

“He gives the impression he gives everything on pitch and he looks like he will score goals

“But it’s happened before with Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira

“(On those occasions) the club didn’t go from top to bottom.

“Every player is replaceable.”

Lehmann’s right. Alexis can be replaced. Although players of his quality aren’t exactly falling from the sky, there are a couple who, if we were willing to part with enough cash, could fill in just fine.

Arsenal are no longer in the position they were when Robin van Persie left the club. Alexis isn’t our only goalscorer. Although there’s no denying that he adds a lot to the team, as Lehmann says, he’s replaceable.

The message that selling Alexis would send is perhaps more damaging than the actual impact of him leaving.
