Bayern Munich are likely to be without Jerome Boateng when they welcome Arsenal to Germany for the Champions League first leg.

The defender has been sidelined since 15 December with a muscle problem on the right side of his chest and is now in a race to be ready for the match, a race he looks like he’s failing.

He underwent surgery on 19 December, the operation completed by Prf. Dr. Andreas Imhoff, the head of sports othopedics at the Klinikum rechts der Isar.

A decision is expected in the next two weeks as to when the player can return to light jogging however he will not be allowed to take part in first team training with the rest of his teammates.

Arsenal arrive in three weeks.
