When asked about Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s contract situations at the moment ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Stoke, Arsene Wenger claimed that both players are committed to the club.

For the moment, at least.

Both stars have 18 months left on their existing contracts and while it appears that Arsenal are trying to get both tied down to new, improved, long-term deals, it’s not exactly happening overnight. Obviously, contract negotiations when it comes to big names are rarely simple but that doesn’t make the waiting any less nerve-racking.

Wenger, however, claims that he’s not willing to listen to offers because both players are committed to fulfilling their contract – or what’s left of it – in north London.

I’m sure this isn’t 100% true. If another team came in for Alexis in the summer offering a huge amount of money, far more than we paid Barcelona in 2014, and the Chilean was refusing to sign a new contact with Arsenal, I’m sure we’d see sense in cashing in from a business point of view.

But I don’t see the boss letting either Ozil or Alexis leave without a fight.
