Arsene Wenger spoke about what the importance of beating PSG and finishing the Champions League group top means to Arsenal ahead of the clash.

Although Arsenal and PSG have both progressed to the knock-out stage of the Champions League already, topping the group means we get a ‘weaker’ opposition in the next round. Therefore, it’s pretty handy to do so.

Wenger also believes that it means we’ve completed our job to the best of our ability.

“[Topping the group would mean] that we have done the job until the end in a convincing way, the boss said.

“When you play 1-1 away from home and then you play at home it’s a luxury to be qualified after four games.

“Last year we had to battle until the end and this season we could finish the job after five games. That would mean we have done really well.”

Arsenal are unbeaten in the competition this season and although we’ve not won all of our games, having the ‘mental strength’ (sigh) to finish the group well should be a boost to the players and fans alike.

Although Arsenal are unlikely to win the Champions League this season either, it’d be nice if we could at least have a decent run at it and not get knocked out in the next round as we usually seem to do at this time each season.
