Just in case you were feeling in any way confident ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United on Saturday, here’s a fun stat.

The last time Arsenal scored a Premier League goal against a Jose Mourinho team was on 6 May 2007. That’s NINE years ago.

The goal in question came from Gilberto Silva, put us 1-0 ahead from a penalty going in at half time, but the Blues equalised in the second half through a Michael Essien header.

That season, Chelsea finished second in the Premier League with 83 points and Arsenal finished fourth with 68 so it’s not as if those two points dropped at the Emirates that spring afternoon were crucial but it’s still shocking to think that was the last time we scored against a Mourinho team in the league.

Glberto’s goal was his 10th for the season since it was our penultimate game so he was bound to be pleased with that since the overall result didn’t make a difference.

Let’s hope we can stop this worrying trend in its tracks. We need to win.
