Manchester United have reportedly overtaken Arsenal in the race to sign Benfica’s Goncalo Guedes.

Arsenal have supposedly been scouting the 19-year-old forward since April 2015. Since then, Manchester United and, at one point, Manchester City, have also been in the mix with the Red Devils the latest to be in the lead to get Guedes’ signature.

The Portugal international has also allegedly been watched by Juventus, Everton, Liverpool and Inter Milan and is worth £51m with his contract with Benfica not running out until 2021.

Sure. Because Arsenal typically spend that amount of cash on teenagers…

Or not, since United are being reported by Portuguese outlet, A Bola, the original source that linked the lad to Arsenal, as the club to claim him after they scouted him at Benfica’s recent clash with Dynamo Kiev.

Look, it’s possible that we have scouted Guedes. We probably scout dozens of promising youngsters, the vast majority of which we never sign.

If he’s as expensive as is being reported, United are welcome to him.

Guedes has scored twice in 14 appearances this season.
