Laurent Koscielny is apparently a big fan of the board game Scrabble… why am I not surprised?

In an interview with L’Equipe while away on international duty with the France squad, the centreback revealed that instead of tweeting or messing about on his phone like the younger players, he cracks out the old Scrabble board.

“My younger team-mates are more tech-savvy than me,” Koscielny said.

“I don’t tweet and they must think I’m like a grandad. But I love playing Scrabble.

“I began with my stepdad and brothers. I’m pretty good now, it relaxes me.

“I’m competitive and I like to win and try and improve.”

At only 31 years old, Kos is far from a grandad but it’s pretty endearing that this is how he relaxes.

It obviously works as he’s consistently one of most rational defenders and, until recently, had only committed two fouls (both against Diego Costa) in the Premier League all season.

He’s the captain of our team so he needs to be the main man to have a calm head on his shoulders. Also, there’s a lot to be said for keeping mentally sharp.

Perhaps he left the Scrabble board at home for our Spurs clash then?
