Former Arsenal defender, Casey Stoney, has agreed to join Liverpool after being released by Arsenal at the start of this month.
The central defender, 34, was deemed surplus to requirements at Arsenal due to her age but has seemingly found space in the Liverpool squad after they released their centreback, Mandy van den Berg. With Gemma Bonner and Sophie Ingle forming a sound and impressive pairing at the back for Liverpool, Stoney will have a fight on her hands to gain a starting spot.
Stoney played for Arsenal for a total six years spread over two spells (1998 – 2002, 2014 – 2016), helping Arsenal win two FA Cups and a League Cup.
In 2015, she was awarded an MBE for her services to football. She is England’s fourth most-capped player of all times, and captained her country between 2012 and 2014. She also wore the armband for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics.
