Neil Warnock is hoping to complete the signing of Marouane Chamakh, along with two other players, before Cardiff City’s next game against Bristol City on 14 October.

Chamakh has been a free agent since the summer when he was released by Palace and has struggled to resurrect his career since leaving Arsenal.

To be fair, he struggled while at Arsenal as well.

Spending three years with the Gunners, Chamakh started strongly in Robin van Twatface’s absence from yet another injury, but when the Dutchman returned to fitness, Chamakh was ousted and never quite got another decent chance.

Rumours of off-the-field problems added to the stress he was feeling and he could never recapture the form that had caught Arsene Wenger’s eye in the first place and prompted many fans to insist Arsenal pay a hefty transfer fee to land him before he became available for free.

Now 32, Chamakh scored 15 goals, with nine assists, in 103 Premier League games with Arsenal (8 in 40), West Ham (0 in 3) and Crystal Palace (7 in 59).

Warnock is also expected to announce the signings of Junior Hoilett and Sol Bamba before the game against Bristol City.
