When is a handball not a handball? When you know the laws of the game.

After Arsenal’s late winner against Burnley, which Laurent Koscielny somehow managed to kick onto his own hand and into the net, fans of clubs across the Premier League (not just Burnley) were found crying on social media about ‘same old Arsenal, always cheating’ (we won’t go into how that song is generally sung after an opposition player has been the one doing the cheating by leaving an Arsenal player in a heap).

So, if you ignore the rules of the game which state that it must be a deliberate action for it to be counted as a foul and say that Koscielny’s goal should not have stood, you will then admit that Arsenal should have had a penalty for this:

That ball travelled a far greater distance than the one that hit Kos, but you agree that to give a penalty for that would be very harsh indeed, no?

So, if Arsenal were rightly denied a penalty for that handball, just what is it about the goal they scored that makes you think it should have been ruled out?

Bet you can’t give me a reason other than ‘because Arsenal scored it.’
