Petr Cech believes Arsenal can and should use last season’s failure to win the title as motivation to earn it this term.

The goalkeeper spoke to Sky Sports recently, claiming that the Gunners can absolutely win the Premier League.

According to him, our strength in depth and balance has improved and now we should learn from our mistakes.

“We have a chance with the squad we have,” the goalkeeper said.

“We have strength in depth, we have a squad that’s well balanced with the young players coming in and the experienced players.

“We’re currently in a very good run of form in all competitions and we hope we can carry this momentum into the Premier League.

“I think it was a good experience for us all last season. We were close but we didn’t win at the end but I think we can use that as a big experience and motivation for this season.”

Although the former Czech international said it was ‘close’ last season… it really wasn’t. At least not between us and the title winners, Leicester City. They won the title with games to spare. It should have been closer but Arsenal being Arsenal, we trailed off after Christmas despite being top going in.

Cech’s right, we do need to use last season as motivation. Remember how terrible it felt not to win and see Leicester, a team who hadn’t even been in the Premier League two minutes, win it comfortably.

The competition is even stronger this season but all we can do is win the games in front of us.
