Ainsley Maitland-Niles played the full 90 minutes for England’s u20s as the defeated Germany 3-1.

Wearing the number 18 shirt, AMN and his teammates collected their second win in two games with an impressive performance which saw them come from behind to win the game.

Speaking after the match, interim manager, Paul Williams, said, “I thought that some of the individual performances on show were absolutely fantastic, especially in the first half so I’m really pleased for the lads.

“We needed to make sure we passed the ball quickly and we did that all game.

“I could honestly go through the whole team talk about their performances. I thought that [goalkeeper] Dean Henderson had a great game with that double save at the end and all of the forward players expressed themselves.

“This is a talented group. We’re in a good position in the tournament and now the players have an incentive to try and push for a place at the World Cup.”

Maitland-Niles, 19, has played 87 minutes for Arsenal in the league cup this season as they trashed Nottingham Forest 4-0. He also has five Premier League 2 appearances.

Speaking at the start of the season, AMN said he was targeting a place in the Arsenal first team. He said, “Obviously I want to play for the first team. That’s the goal, so that’s my main target really.”

If I had to guess, I would think that Ainsley will be heading out on loan again once the January window opens as it’s hard to see him breaking through into the first team squad on a regular basis this season.

The FA also list Dominic Solanke as an Arsenal player, however, he plays for Chelsea.

Tafari Moore was on the bench and was an unused sub.
