New forward, Lucas Perez, has admitted that he did expect more game time when he signed for Arsenal from Deportivo this summer.

The £17m Spaniard has only managed two Premier League appearances so far this season and one in the Champions League against Ludogorets on Wednesday, in which he provided two assists for Mesut Ozil.

“I told him [Ozil] that he owes me a meal, and he said he was happy to oblige,” Lucas joked.

The only start Lucas has managed was against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup; he scored a brace.

However, the 28-year-old seems to be a little disappointed with his lack of time on the pitch.

“When I first arrived here I expected to have more of a starring role,” he said to Onda Cero radio [via ESPN].

To be fair, I think a lot of us have been a bit curious about how little Lucas has played so far since joining. However, most people acknowledge that this is because our current forwards are doing so well and that Arsene Wenger, who sees them all in training everyday, knows far better than us.

“The teammates that are playing in my position are doing a great job,” he added.

“We have won seven games in a row and, at the end of the day, the coach wants what is best for the team.

“I had hoped to have more playing time, but what I have to do now is make the most of the opportunities I get.”

I doubt it has much to be with Lucas’ individual ability and more to do with not breaking up the current starting XI while everyone’s working so well together.

Hopefully, rather than get himself down about it, Lucas pushes even harder to get some minutes under his belt.
