There weren’t many people more thrilled that Carl Jenkinson got his first Arsenal start in almost 900 days than the player himself.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years, you’ll know that Jenks went out on loan to West Ham for two seasons. However, during the second term, his time with the Hammers was abruptly cut short. He’d injured his cruciate ligament, needed surgery and had to return to Arsenal. He was then out for nine months.

The 24-year-old made his senior return against Reading in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night and put in a solid performance.

It was a huge moment for the defender, who has openly supported Arsenal his entire life. It’s good to have him back.

Here’s his return in pictures, including what his teammates had to say.

You can find his Player Focus piece from there game here.
