Jack Wilshere is reportedly yet to be approached over a new Arsenal deal but are we really surprised?
The midfielder is currently on loan at Bournemouth so it seems unlikely that we would offer him a new contract while he’d bedding in over there.
Saying this, I’m very much of the personal opinion that this loan spell isn’t ‘the beginning of the end’ for Jack. Quite the opposite. I think it’s about him returning to fitness, getting regular playing time and developing. Hopefully, if everything goes in his favour, he’ll be some way back to his best by the end of the season.
Then, I think we’re much more likely to offer the 24-year-old a new deal.
Wilshere’s current Arsenal contract doesn’t run out until 2018 – the same as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – and while we’re trying hard to get them to sign on the dotted line, Jack isn’t such an issue. The kid loves Arsenal and I think we probably know we can wait a little longer for him.
We’ll see.
Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also reportedly yet to be approached.
