Arsène Wenger has said that our 3-0 home victory over Chelsea should give the players “the taste to want more” over the coming months with plenty of important fixtures coming thick-and-fast in all competitions.
Arsenal produced an excellent overall display, especially in the first-half, as goals from Alexis Sánchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Özil helped seal a famous win over the west London rivals, who’ve proven a tricky side to beat in recent seasons.
As quoted by the club’s official website, Wenger had the following to say about the performance,”I’m a very happy man because we produced the quality of football we want to produce. If I had told you that before the game, we would all have signed up.”
The victory itself has extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions, which suggests that lessons have been learned after a disappointing 4-3 opening weekend defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side.
“That’s why we all love the game – because it can give you this kind of spectacle that you want to see. That should give us the taste to want more and hopefully it will.”
With Basel up next in the UEFA Champions League group stages on Wednesday, Wenger and his team will be hoping for a similar atmosphere to spur the side towards another victory against tough opposition in the Swiss champions.
