Arsene Wenger has spoken about our poor home form and admitted that losing to Liverpool on the opening day of the season was a ‘mental shock’ to the players and fans.

Arsenal got the new season underway in the worst way possible: a 4-3 defeat at home to Liverpool. And it could have been even worse.

Although Arsenal went 1-0 ahead in the first half thanks to Theo Walcott, the visitors got the second half underway in blistering fashion with three goals coming from Philippe Coutinho (x2) and Adam Lallana within 11 minutes.

Sadio Mané made it 4-1 just seven minutes later.

Although we came back 4-3 due to two goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers, it was too little too late. Not a good day at the office.

“We scored three at Watford, we scored four [at Hull],” Wenger said.
“We played 0-0 at Leicester but we had two or three opportunities. Away from home we look more convincing, at the moment, than at home.

“I believe that when we lost our first game [at home] it was a mental shock for us and for our supporters and straight away they had a little bit of scepticism and doubt.

“It was important for us to win the Southampton game and hopefully now we can have the same quality at home.

“The positivity comes from us and from our attitude. We have to think that we get the supporters behind us when the performances are convincing and not the other way around.”

To be fair, the Gunners have responded positively. Although we drew 0-0 away to reigning Champions Leicester City, it wasn’t a loss and after that we beat Watford 3-1, Southampton 2-1 and most recently Hull 4-1.

Our performances may not be the most convincing but I do feel as if we’re getting there.
