Arsenal’s Kelechi Nwakali made his debut for Jong MVV Maastricht on Monday night wearing the number 10 shirt as he begins his season on loan with the Dutch side.

Playing the first half of the game, Nwakali could do nothing to stop his new team losing 2-0 to Jong FC Eindhoven, but the game was only a friendly so it doesn’t really matter.

Playing as an attacking midfielder, the 18-year-old should make his debut against Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie on Friday, kick-off 7pm.

Nwakali’s loan runs for the full season but he has the option to leave in January if he fails to adapt to life at the club or in the country.

Arsenal would then, no doubt, have to find a new home for him as the player who was voted the best at the FIFA U17 World Cup is not deemed talented enough to get a special talent visa from the Home Office.

Had he signed for United, no doubt they’d have thrown as many visas as possible at him.
