Urs Fischer admitted in his press conference ahead of Basel’s trip to north London that the Swiss team feel “courage” due to their positive results against English teams in recent years.

The Basel manager brought up their record against English sides, explaining that because of this they’ll be confident but they still need to take the day as it comes.

Basel have only lost twice in 10 meetings against English opposition. They’ve beaten Chelsea, Manchester United and drawn against Liverpool, and although we’ve not played against them, I think we can predict that beating them will be anything but easy.

“We need to look to tomorrow! The last results against English clubs give us courage.”

Hopefully, the Arsenal players will be made aware of these statistics and see it as another hurdle to successfully jump over. When we underestimate our opposition, that’s when we tend to fall flat on our faces and even though we’ve claimed we won’t do that anymore, it’s still happened. Actions speak louder than words.

Basel are confident; let’s give them a reason not to be.
