Arsenal and Liverpool are said to be watching Sassuolo’s Grégoire Defrel who has scored four goals, with two assists, in five Serie A games this season.
With seven goals in nine games (three assists) in all competitions this season, the 25-year-old has made his way on to the radar of the Premier League giants according to the reliable Gianluca di Marzio. He only scored seven in the whole of last season.
Under contract until 2020 after only signing for Sassulo in 2015 from Cesena, Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly watched the player, who can also play out wide, on at least three occasions and GDM believes they will both have been more than pleased with what they saw.
He doesn’t, however, see the player as anything more than a ‘Plan D’ for Arsenal or Liverpool.
Defrel cost the Italians £5.95m last summer and he’s no doubt added a few more millions on to that price tag.
If he does move, nothing will happen before next summer as Sassuolo are desperate to hang on to him. Zenit, Villarreal, and Monaco were all linked with the player before the summer window opened.
