Arsenal are apparently willing to pay €9m for Southampton’s Jose Fonte, and with Manchester United’s Marcus Rojo not leaving the club, some media outlets believe Arsenal have a clear run at the player.

The reports also claim that Jose Mourinho would a not be willing to pay this amount which is just stupid because Mourinho doesn’t know value and will happily pay anything for anyone. It’s how he became the first manager to spend a billion and how he has built his career, after all.

When we first covered this rumour we were fairly certain that it was all just the antics of Fonte’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who is most likely trying to get his player a payrise at Southampton after his Euro-winning summer.

While Arsenal are also no doubt looking at backup plans just in case Shkodran Mustafi goes Pete Tong, I’m still not convinced that this is one of them.
