Arsene Wenger has allegedly given the ‘green light’ to Calum Chambers so he can leave the club on loan despite Arsenal already needing one new centre back before two got crocked.
Supposedly searching for a striker, we’ve already let Joel Campbell go and with the news that Chambers could follow him out the door a lot of Arsenal fans are scratching their heads wondering what the hell is going on.
Sure, letting these players leave is a great idea if you have replacements lined up who are better, but do we? Are they locked in? Surely they have to be otherwise letting two players leave from a thin squad in positions where you’re already anorexic is bordering on negligence.
I feel like giving up trying to work out what’s going on at Arsenal in this window.
So far we’ve brought in Granit Xhaka (brilliant signing), Rob Holding (young, looks like an astute purchase, but one for the future), Kelechi Nwakali (a teenager who will go on loan) and Takuma Asano (a Japanese forward denied a work permit who is set for a loan).
Drill that down and we’ve, realistically, purchased one ready-made player while we’re shipping them out at a rate of 2-to-1.
I want to feel confident about the next week, and I would love nothing more than Arsene to show me how wrong I am by slapping me around the face with some amazing, out-of-the-blue stars.
Alas, I feel I feel I may just end up slapping myself for not simply facing reality.
