According to an ‘exclusive’ in the Sun, Arsene Wenger isn’t interested in small fry like Alexandre Lacazette, he’s after Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski or, if that fails, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann.
As the Sun says, it’ll cost a minimum of £60m to bring either of them to the Emirates but they would certainly fall under the category of ‘big name goalscorer’.
It’s a nice thought. However, realistically, could they happen?
Hypothetically anything can happen – we’ve got the money, it’s just whether Wenger is prepared to spend it. And this isn’t the only issue.
Lewandowski is stalling on signing a new contract with Munich because he wants higher wages. With Arsenal’s current wage structure, signing him for what he’s demanding would blow it out the water.
Griezmann did extraordinarily well for France during the Euros, which is why his asking price is so high. He also works well with Olivier Giroud if played together, which I don’t see Wenger doing that often but at least that’s an option.
Saying this, both players seem like such reaches. I don’t see this happening.
