After Gabriel went in for a challenge during Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Manchester City and he didn’t get up, fans instantly feared the worst.
Arsene Wenger claimed after the match that it was certainly at least an ankle sprain, which appears to just be the boss playing it down. Gabriel was in tears when he was stretchered off the pitch – it didn’t look like just a sprain, as painful as they can be.
With Per Mertesacker missing and Laurent Koscielny still recovering from the Euros, we’re left with no senior centre-backs, which means we desperately need to buy. If we don’t, we’re left with Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and Krystian Bielik as our only options.
Wenger on Gabriel: "It's certainly an ankle sprain." But no details on how serious.

Arsenal fans are clearly worried because although we’ve been linked with a couple of defenders, nothing concrete has come of it, no matter what various sports journalists claim.
Now, all we can do is play the waiting game and hope that Gabriel’s injury isn’t too serious and that we dip into our transfer fund very, very soon.
Here’s how Twitter reacted.
@6_LKOSCIELNY WE'RE SO SCREWED

@gpaulista5 It won't be bad news if the concern of our defence is resolved. Actually, both our ST an defence situation. #AFC
