Roma have named Wojceich Szczesny in their Champions League squad ahead of their qualifier on Wednesday night against Porto.
The Arsenal shotstopper recently spoke about his gratitude because Roma wanted him again, telling Sky Sport Italia, “I am grateful to the club for wanting me here again.
“When I arrived, Morgan De Sanctis was helping me to settle in, but now the roles have been reversed and I am doing that for Alisson.
“I will try to help him, but in truth he’s already an excellent goalkeeper now.”
Woj is favoured ahead of Alisson, who only arrived this summer, due to his previous experience with the Italians and is likely to start their game at the Estadio do Dragao this week. Alisson is seen as a long-term prospect for the club.
He also sees the fight for Serie A being between the Romans and Juventus, hailing the new additions at the club, including former Arsenal captain, Thomas Vermaelen who will also spend the season on loan in the city.
A qualifying tie worth a reported €30m, excluding gate receipts, matches don’t come much bigger or with more pressure. Woj has shown over the past 12 months that he has matured, so should be able to handle that no problem.
