Alex Iwobi has been gifted a commemorative picture by the Premier League for his debut season in a year which broke the record for homegrown player appearances.

67 homegrown players featured last season – the most there’s ever been – and the Premier League decided to mark the occasion by giving those involved a picture with all the players’ faces on it.

Iwobi made 13 Premier League appearances last season, with seven of them coming after both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott picked up injuries. At the age of only 19 at the time, the forward had to step into their shoes but he didn’t just do that, he was massively impressive.

The Nigeria international scored two goals – one against Everton and the other against Watford – and picked up two assists. It was a brilliant display from such a young player and it goes to show the talent we have in our academy.

Now, the 20-year-old appears to be part of Arsene Wenger’s plans for the senior team and scored three in pre-season.

Exciting times.
