Ipswich Town want to take Ainsley Maitland-Niles back on loan ahead of the transfer window closing on Wednesday.

With the emergency loan system scrapped and Football League clubs no longer able to sign players on loan outside of the window, Mick McCarthy would like to bring the Arsenal youngster back for another season.

Maitland-Niles spoke earlier in the summer about how he was targeting a place in the Arsenal first team this season but, as talented as he is, that would seem very much a pipe dream given the players ahead of him in the pecking order.

We were under the impression that his loan spell did not go that well the first time around with the player dumped from the squad because of his mum (remember, she was the one who was arrested at London Colney for kicking off at Dick Law) after she allegedly left an ‘x-rated’ message on McCarthy’s answerphone.

He made 30 appearances for Ipswich in the league, but was dropped from the squad in mid-March and was then selected just twice for the rest of the campaign – once on the bench and once when he was subbed off at halftime.

But it would seem that McCarthy is not at all put off from going back for seconds and it now remains to be seen if Arsenal will let AMN leave again.

I can’t honestly see them stopping him.
