By this stage, I think we’re all very much aware that Mauro Icardi isn’t coming to Arsenal; in fact, he’s being reported to have a meeting with Napoli soon.

The Inter Milan striker, who apparently burst into tears when told about Roberto Mancini’s exit, has appeared pretty adamant that he wants to stay at the Serie A club. He’s said he’s happy there. However, his wife and agent, Wanda Nara, previously spoke about Inter not being able to afford him, sparking speculation that the rumours about him leaving were purely to get him a new, improved contract.

However, despite the player himself seeming to be happy, the new Inter coach, Frank de Boer, doesn’t seem too sure, saying at his first press conference that he wants Icardi to stay. This is a given though but surely if he’s happy and not going anywhere the manager would say as such?

“Icardi is a very important player for us,” De Boer told Premium Sport.

“He’s the one who has scored the most goals in the past two seasons and I don’t want to lose him. I’ve said it to the club and [sporting director Piero] Ausilio too: I want Icardi to stay.

“We, as a staff and a squad, have to convince him. Icardi is in the right place, he can become even stronger here. I’m sure we’ll succeed.

“I can’t wait to work with him.”

Now, reports are emerging that Icardi is supposed to be meeting with Napoli, who are willing to offer Inter €60m or €50m plus Manolo Gabbiadini.

Former Inter striker, Alessandro Altobelli, has spoke to Radio TMW about the saga and claims it’s crucial for the club to keep hold of their captain.

“Some things you do in the family,” he said.

“Inter can not and must not lose Icardi, but Mauro must have a different behavior.”

On the other hand, Tarcisio Burgnich, another ex-Inter player, offered to walk Icardi to his new club himself!

“I’d give it away to the first to buy it. It has qualities like Balotelli, but there must always be in the field. It ‘a captain, should be a director in the field. But it is discontinuous, sometimes playing very well and sometimes walking. With 60 million Euros, I would accompany him to the new team.”

Goodness me.
