Napoli look like they are far more interested in signing Mauro Icardi than Arsenal in a transfer that has ‘Gonzalo Higuain’ written all over it.

With Inter determined to hold on to their captain and Napoli flush with Higuain cash, Arsenal have been heavily linked but when you follow the media in Italy, it seems as if they are merely a sidenote with Alexandre Lacazette named as the main target for Arsene Wenger.

Icardi’s wife and agent has been the driving force behind this transfer, as is the case for most players really. Feeling as if promises at Inter were broken and her husband is not being paid what he’s worth, she has touted him around the continent and made no secret of it as she attempts to land a better deal where he is or a new home with a new, fat contract.

Inter are rumoured to be softening their position somewhat and could let Icardi leave, but not until they find a replacement. Rumoured to be after Edinson Cavani, they will most likely find that tree fruitless.

My best guess would be Icardi will remain in Italy. As I’ve said all along, South American players are far more comfortable there than they are in England due to the similar climates and cultures.

He might move, he might stay. Either way, I doubt any of it will concern Arsenal.
