Rob Holding seems like he has absolutely no intention of coming to Arsenal and waiting to take his chance.

Sensing an opportunity with Per Mertesacker’s injury, the youngster has impressed in his friendly displays and his goal against Chivas in the early hours of Monday morning will have done him no harm whatsoever.

With Arsenal still looking to bring in a central defender, Rob certainly has a fight on his hands. But it’s one he seems to be well up for.

“I’m settling in quickly but I’ve only been here a week and a half and am pinching myself,” Holding said.

“The difference is the sheer size of Arsenal and I’ve noticed it on this trip to the States. People are shouting for the players wherever we go.

“This is what I wanted. I am looking forward to getting the chance to play against big names in front of massive crowds.”

Arsene Wenger has been quick to praise the 20-year old every chance he can get and the more we see of Holding the better the purchase looks.

“I am impressed by his performances and by his capacity to adapt very quickly to a higher level,” Wenger said.

“He shows intelligence, composure, character and it’s impressive. You do not see that often.”

So will Holding get the nod against Liverpool? “At the moment we have Per Mertesacker out and we have Laurent Koscielny still on holiday, plus Gabriel,” Wenger added.

“One of them will play at the start of the season or at least be in the squad. At the moment I have a look at everybody and after I will make my final decision.”
