The Arsenal centre-back, Josephine Henning. was given her first start in the competition, but was withdrawn at half-time making way for Annike Krahn as Germany were defeated 2-1 by Canada.

Germany’s performances during the tournament have not been stellar, far from it but they still made it through to the quarter-finals were they will play China DPR coached by Frenchman Bruno Bini.

Germany finished runners-up in their group but were one goal away from finishing third and sent to play another team, but Zimbabwe rescued them with a goal against Australia.
