With just one year left on his Arsenal contract and currently lighting up Rio, Serge Gnabry is being linked heavily with a move to Hertha BSC according to reports in Germany.

The report itself is somewhat confusing but this is not the first time Gnabry’s name has been linked with Hertha and speculation is bound to increase after yet another great performance and goal from the German against Portugal in the quarter final of the Olympics.

As for his contract at Arsenal, the lack of a new deal being offered has more to do with the seriousness of the knee injury he suffered than doubts over his ability. After showing it has not affected him by tearing up the Olympics, I’ve no doubt a new one will be coming his way very soon.

A loan would seem to make more sense for the club and that is unlikely to be something they agree to until a new deal is in place.

Hertha are not opposed to taking him for a season, after switching their attentions from Alexander Esswein, 26, who is currently with FC Ausburg to the Arsenal man.
