With the news that Mauro Icardi has ‘snubbed’ Arsenal, I thought I’d take a look at some of the players who have reportedly snubbed our club in this window, but probably haven’t.

First up, let’s start with the Inter Milan man.

Mauro Icardi

Icardi

From the first minute he was linked with Arsenal until Sunday afternoon when it was reported that he had signed a new deal with Inter, we said that he was absolutely not coming to Arsenal and that all the chatter was from his wife/agent, Wanda Nara, who was trying to get him a better deal where he was.

For a while we wobbled and thought he might go to Napoli, but it became clear very quickly that Nara was using them as well.

Both clubs needed a striker and were perfect fodder.

Did Arsenal even make a bid? Probably not.

Riyad Mahrez

Mahrez is another who signed a new deal with his current club despite being linked heavily with Arsenal who were reported to have not only bid for him but agreed terms.

That’s surprising given that Claudio Ranieri said that he had received no offers for the player.

Alexandre Lacazette

Although he hasn’t, at the time of writing, signed a new deal with Lyon, he is in line to be made their highest paid player. Another, surely, that snubbed Arsenal?

Well, no.

In the middle of the saga the press in Lyon were reporting that both Arsenal and Lacazette were getting fed up with the rumours because there was zero truth to them. Even the Lyon president said Arsene Wenger had no interest in his player. Besides, even if Arsenal did bid for him, it was the club that rejected the bid, and were allegedly wanting ridiculous money before they’d let him go. That’s not a ‘snub.’

The centreback signed for Roma after being linked with Arsenal all summer despite any evidence that the club had bid or were even considering it.

Antoine Griezmann

Yet another who signed a big new deal with his current club and yet another that it is seriously doubtful that Arsenal even made an approach for. People were still saying Arsenal wanted him after he signed a new long-term deal, like they couldn’t quite let go of their little stories.

These players will all go down in history as having ‘snubbed’ Arsenal, but how many really did?

My guess would be none. Yours?
