Emmanuel Petit has apparently been having a little chat with SFR Sport, ranting about Arsene Wenger not opening the door to former players… clearly forgetting about the numerous ex-Gunners Arsenal have given chances to.

When people criticise Arsene Wenger, I find it a little hard to take them seriously when they get their facts completely wrong. It doesn’t matter if they used to play for the club. If they magic up some bizarre statement and use it to attack the boss, it’s simply impossible to actually take what they’re coming out with on board.

The latest is Petit apparently putting the boss on blast for not ‘opening the door’ to former Arsenal players.

“Why didn’t Arsene open the door to Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira or Tony Adams?” He said.

“Arsene couldn’t imagine that anyone would criticise him openly on television, never mind a former Arsenal player.

“It is good to build statues to commemorate history. but at some point you have to open the doors to help them.

“When I see Dennis Bergkamp on Ajax’s bench, it doesn’t bother me, but I remember Dennis has a son in Arsenal’s academy.

“I was with Patrick two days before he went to the USA. There was an event organised by Manchester City in January, and I was one of four players invited by Patrick.

“I spoke with Patrick for two hours and I can say – and maybe he will not be happy that I am saying this in public – he is really disgusted by Arsenal and Arsene’s attitude.”

So, who is Steve Bould then? Our assist manager.

Pat Rice? Our former assist manager.

Thierry Henry (one of the names Petit specifically mentioned) who was coaching our u18s but chose a career in punditry before heading to the Belgium national team.

Tony Adams, who was also reportedly offered a coaching role with our youth players but turned it down.

Patrick Vieira, who chose Manchester City when Arsenal didn’t give him special treatment.

Freddie Ljungberg, who is currently coaching at Arsenal academy.

Who are these players? Who did they used to play for? Are they impostors?

I sincerely hope Vieira isn’t ‘sickened’ by Wenger. I feel sorry for him if he’s truly that bitter.
